Privacy notice
How Students Herald handles reader information and your choices.
Updated 8 October 2026.
Reader accounts
Students Herald uses your email address, first and last name to verify your account, provide registered-reader access and attribute comments. Birthday, mobile, WhatsApp and Instagram details are optional. Student status is self-declared and does not certify enrolment.
Choices and tracking
Marketing consent is separate from account access. Optional reading analytics records page paths, visit time and approximate country only when you opt in through your profile. It does not collect precise device location. Reading activity older than 90 days is removed during routine collection and is excluded from reports after that period. You can withdraw consent in your reader account.
Comments and email
Published comments show your display name, comment and date. Staff can moderate comments and retain the original while resolving edits. A registration notification is sent to our communications team without your personal details in the email. Verification, recovery and service emails are needed to operate your account.
Storage and providers
Authentication and reader records use Supabase. Website hosting and media use the site hosting service and Cloudflare infrastructure. Notification email uses Resend. Provider infrastructure may operate outside New Zealand. Access to private reader records is restricted to authorised administrators. Public stories and published images can be saved or copied by visitors.
Your information
Use your account to update details, download your reader data or request deletion through the Delete reader account control. Deletion removes your account and activity and replaces your comments with a removal notice. Administrative audit records may remain for security and accountability. For other access, correction, removal or privacy concerns, contact comms@studentsherald.com.
